Amber Holloway, a little girl of ten is raised alone by her father, Sheriff Todd Holloway. Her father is forced to raise her alone after Amber's mother dies of the consumption. Sheriff Holloway is a dutiful father and sheriff. He is devoted to raising Amber properly, going so far as to teach her skills that many little girls aren't usually taught. She is taught how to ride a horse, how to track down a target, and how to handle firearms. Sheriff Holloway does this so Amber can learn to protect herself when she gets older. There is truth and sense to his methods, as the Wild West is a dangerous time to live in.
Sheriff Holloway is also a responsible sheriff who takes his duties as a lawman very seriously. When the infamous Calhoun Brood rides into town, they cross paths with Sheriff Holloway. The Calhoun Brood is a notorious gang of brother outlaws led by their eldest sibling Rufus Calhoun. The Calhoun Brood have a reputation for being cold and ruthless killers. They rob a bank at the town where Sheriff Holloway works. Sheriff Holloway tries to fight them off, but is brutally killed, leaving Amber an orphan. The event changes Amber's life forever. It proves to be very traumatic for the little girl who grows up angry and bitter. Amber dedicates her life to finding her father's killers and avenging him. Amber is only too eager to pursue her father's killers but little does she know that vengeance exacts a high price on both sides.
