Dr. John R. Maass is a historian at the U.S. Army Center of Military History. He received a bachelor s in history from Washington and Lee University, a master s in history from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, and a Ph.D. in early American history from the Ohio State University. He is the author of The French and Indian War in North Carolina: The Spreading Flames of War (Charleston, S.C., 2013) and Defending a New Nation, 1783-1811 (Washington, D.C., 2013).
